About This Course

In this course, in addition to familiarising with and learning to assess our personal level of intercultural competence, we examine the basic concepts of intercultural competence and bring them into the context of education and teacher’s reality. We also look at the dialogue between policies and practice and see where the need for intercultural competence in education stems from and why it is a topical issue at the moment.

We work in pairs or groups on assignments that aim to produce useful and practical information and inspire you, future teachers, in your work. This is a hands-on, collaborative experience resulting in a certificate by the University of Eastern Finland for all those crossing the finishing line with all the assignments in the pocket!

This course is intended for all teacher students, in-service teachers and/or post-graduate students interested in intercultural competence in education and teacher's work. It is particularly suitable for (future) language teachers as intercultural competence is closely intertwined with language education.
